Couples / Marriage Therapy

Rediscover connection and rebuild trust. Learn how to manage conflict, express emotions in healthy ways, and strengthen your partnership through proven strategies and Christian principles.

Intimate partner relationships were designed to provide support, encouragement, partnership, companionship, emotional closeness and sexual intimacy. When any of these fundamental needs are not met, cracks in the relationship begin to show. Many of the “cracks” or issues treated in therapy are communication problems, poor conflict management, relationship anger, unforgiveness, resentment, emotional disconnection, loneliness, emotional affairs, sexual intimacy struggles and sexual affairs.  Couples / marriage therapy helps bring the needs of the relationship into focus as it provides a set time to come together and discuss the issues in a structured and productive environment.  Thoroughly understanding and resolving the issues includes examining the impact of family upbringing on the current relationship interactions and both partners taking responsibility for what they contribute to the relationship. The tools, skills and insights offered to clients have been acquired through years of formal study, clinical training and my own marital relationship journey of 25 years.  I look forward to teaching, guiding and supporting you in pursuit of relationship health and wholeness.

What to Expect

If it’s your first time pursuing therapy, you may be hesitant to commit to the process. New and unfamiliar experiences often create uncertainty.

However, therapy (commonly referred to as counseling) isn’t new or unusual. Counseling has existed as long as humans have walked the earth. Whether it’s from a friend, relative, mentor or religious figure, people look to fellow human beings for support.

A licensed therapist provides professional, specialized guidance and interventions.

The initial session involves gathering information about current and past struggles. Clients leave the first session with a preliminary action plan and homework exercises (homework is given after all sessions).

The second session involves a review of homework, further assessment of unproductive thinking patterns and education on developing healthy perceptions of self, others and circumstances.

By the third meeting, clients often begin feeling more confident and equipped to address the deeper (root) issues that are fueling unwanted emotions and behaviors. It is recommended that clients complete 3 consecutive weekly sessions to quickly facilitate change and generate hope that things can improve. Sessions will then be scheduled as needed.
